VISION House Construction update
What better way to spend a beautiful 75 degree sunny day in Central Florida, then by bringing you an update on the construction of VISION House 2008. What began as a dream several years ago for many folks involved has become a reality. At the beginning of April we put the first shovel in the ground.
Excavation of the basement level was complete the first week in April. The footings were dug, steel placed, inspected, and poured the second week of April. Stem wall, rough plumbing, slab preparation, inspection, and slab pour was accomplished in the third week of April. CMU walls, steel placement, inspection, and solid grouting of the CMU walls took place in the fourth week of April. This brings us to where we are today. The Walk out Basement bearing walls are framed, the First Floor trusses are set, and the framers have begun to install the Decking Material.
Now let's talk a little "GREEN" as it relates to VISION House. We started by transplanting three native Sable Palms on site. We removed a single Oak Tree because unfortunately it was centered on our building pad. This tree was to Mature to transplant, so we have set it aside to be "chipped" for mulch along with all the lumber waste from the project, and then utilized in conjunction with the finish landscape.
We have a full recycling program on site as well with separate bins and designated locations for: Aluminum, Steel, Paper and Cardboard products, Plastic, Concrete, Concrete Block, Wood, Wood with nails, and Glass products. This program is working extremely well with an occasional "Dumpster Dive" to keep things straight.
We used the Maximum 30% Fly Ash in our concrete mix. The CMU's were produced less than 15 miles from the site in the most energy efficient kiln available today. The heat in the Kiln is actually generated by the "Hydration" of the concrete block. There is no bi-product emissions with this process. Other products being implemented to date are: Engineered floor trusses, Timber Strand Studs, Borate treated plate material, Styro Sill Sealer, and Advantech Decking material.
Next week I'll be talking about SIPS, Delta Dry, Drain system, and Institute for Business and Home Safety.
